So after slaving over a hot stove (slight exaggeration) making what I thought was a pretty tasty bolognese sauce yesterday, husband arrives home has a taste and then started adding goodness knows what to my sauce. I must say though, it tasted so much better after he added whatever he added.
So this got me thinking - what do you add to your bolognese sauce to make it extra tasty?
Bit of a random question, but one that I have been pondering since last night.....

Not highly original, but a little fresh chilli and a little fresh basil. I sometimes add red kidney beans, as odd as it may sound, the boys love them and scoff it down!
oh, wow what a random question at that Tam! I will always add garlic, onions, bay leaf, s &p, but i might spice things up with a dash of red wine (and some for the cook) some veg (like carrot or mushroom) or do a combination of beef and veal mince - but quite honestly, i could never make the same sauce twice!
My husband (who does all the cooking) adds in celery and carrot and also does a combination of pork and beef mince!
The combo of mince is a big factor I reckon and always a good spoonful of tomato paste plus the sugo to give it depth. I also add a touch of balsamic and sugar. :)
I have the same trouble when my Boyfriend tries my spaghetti bol!! I always use garlic, red wine (I've heard white wine is suppose to go nice in it as well!!), some oregano or basil and a beef stock cube. Sometimes I add olives (black ones) to add a different flavor again!
Yum I feel like some pasta now!! lol

My secret is to always cook off the minced garlic, diced onion and tomato paste in a little olive oil right at the beginning.
If you're looking for something new and interesting, try using turkey mince - it's delicious!
